VectorLinux Standard 5.8 Final is out!

After two months of active development, marked by a beta and three release candidates, yesterday, December 18th, the VectorLinux team released the final 5.8 version of the Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition. The code name chosen for v5.8 it's Santa.

The release it's developed upon Slackware 11.0 and features a complete desktop environment built upon XFCE4. Despite being a single CD Linux distro, Vector Linux features all software one might need and the overall speed of the system it's very good making the distro suitable for older machines too.

The Standard Edition comes with Linux kernel 2.6.18, Flash 9, Java and multimedia players for all formats out of the box. All of them are already plugged in the three browsers included in the distro: SeaMonkey, Firefox and Opera.

The Deluxe Edition features more proprietary software, KDE and Gnome and much more. Unlike the Standard Edition, this one is commercial costing $26.97 and can be ordered here.
