Welcome to VectorLinux!
VectorLinux is a Slackware based Linux distribution for x86 compatible machines (mainly Intel and AMD). The work on this distro was started by Robert S. Lange and Darrell Stavem as a Canadian distribution, however, now the project is maintained by team effort world wide.
VectorLinux aims to be a light weight user friendly Linux distribution. Although it is based on Slackware which is considered to be a hard to use OS, it is ideal for workstations and even a for the Linux newbies. VectorLinux is highly optimized as Slackware is and the performance is notable, especially on pre-2000 computers that barely run a modern GUI operating system.
It is also recommended to the users that need a Linux workstation environment that are not very happy with other bloated distributions. Although it fits on a single CD, the distribution is complete, having hardware support for popular devices and also software support for very different tasks such as: office tools, multimedia and entertaiment, graphics etc.
Before migrating to VectorLinux I used Fedora Core for three years, and in the past I opted only for Microsoft Windows for my workstation, using Linux only for servers.
Welcome to my VectorLinux website! I invite you to continue your visit here, where I aim to detail the reasons behind my migration to Vector Linux.
